Despite this, in every minute we necessarily make decisions which can be either good or bad, but they are generally successful from the individual’s perspective, as individuals tend to survive the consequences of their decisions. This is all the more true to larger groups of humans, since—at least for the time being—humanity has survived all difficulties and astrays. Considering the change in people’s living conditions compared to previous times, development seems undeniable, which indicates global success.
These successful decisions are based on models which are the reflections of what we perceive and think of as reality in ourselves and others. The goal—and achievement—of science, including system science, is to create better and more useful models. Models which actually reflect reality in its essential characteristics. The model, thus, is a basic concept of systems. Imperfect as they are, the models actually work. This makes system modelling one of the most important foundations of system science.
