The framework of the movements and changes in systems led the need and practice of scaling. The scaling systems, i. e. the measures of space, changes of mass in space and time, evolved over thousands of years. These scaling systems were harmonised and coordinated with the development of systems and the related science. The concept of coordinate and the coordinate system was created during the period of Renaissance and the Enlightenment. Newton’s mathematical representation of motion, as the origin of all mathematically described phenomena, would have been unthinkable without the Cartesian coordinate approach. (Coordinate = ordo Lat. ‘order’ + co- ‘together’.)
