The dynamics of these principles were already in the centre of interest in ancient philosophy, but they gained fundamental importance in modern technological systems, in the transformation of mass and energy, in their efficiency and losses. At a conceptual level, the ancient Greek terms can be used quite well, but to handle the problem precisely we have to resort to the tools of physics and mathematics.
